Floriade Fashion Week took part last week and one of the special projects was the Masterclass.
The Dutch designer Jan Taminiau has partnered with Floriade 2012 to promote sustainable fashion. Floriade is a World Horticultural Expo held every ten years and visited by more than two million national and international visitors.
One theme of the Floriade 2012 is ‘the Fashion Week’. As part of the theme, Jan Taminiau developed the Floriade Masterclass, which aims to create awareness around sustainability. He challenged a group of young fashion designers to design and create an outfit within the theme ‘Nature Extends’ (the inspiration for the couture collection of Jan Taminiau) according to a self-developed sustainability principle. On the 10th of May trend watcher Lidewij Edelkoort gave a talk about the Horticultural view on Fashion. What a privilage for these designers.
I was very pleased that several FASHIONCLASH participants took part at this unique opportunity. There was work from designers Saba Tark, Bregje Cox, Deniece Clermonts, Joshua Enker, Linda Friesen and Linda Valkeman.
