Maaike Fransen, one of the highlights at Amsterdam Fashion Week
Designer Maaike Fransen made a memorable debut with her innovative, fun and playful collection HOARDING (DIS)ORDER at the 21st edition of Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam.
Unlike most of the shows at the fashion week, Maaike's presentation included performance elements which made it even more worth attending her show.
Maaike Fransen is a multitalented designer working in between various disciplines such as fashion, design, art, styling, trend forecast and so on. Combined with her rich imagination she presented a very authentic and playful collection. The collection presented at Amsterdam Fashion Week is just a selection of the entire collection that she is working on as an ongoing project. She will create a film that will be on display during Dutch Design Week in October 2014.
The definition of the word collection is that what exists from the things you collect. Collecting objects is exactly what she does. As long as she can remember Maaike has been some kind of a hoarder. Everything that attracts her she brings home and that's where the creative process starts.
Her inspiration comes from daily ordinary objects and materials, which she transforms into new creations that are functional and surreal at the same time. Her work is poetic, unique and well crafted. She includes personal stories and memories in her work making it even more authentic.
Maaike Fransen graduated cum laude from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2010 in the department Man & Identity. In 2012 she was one of the participants of the Clash Project at the FASHIONCLASH Festival in Maastricht. In the past she collaborated with Henrik Vibskov and Lucy McRae.
