BRANKOPOPOVICBLOG: 12th edition - FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland

From 16th till 19th of April I attended the 12th edition of FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland that takes place in the city of Łódź. This edition the biggest fashion event in Poland took place at a new venue, namely the Double Tree by Hilton.
The fashion show schedule featured around 25 brands, next to the shows there is was a showroom area where you can discover a variety of brands as well and if desired also purchase unique Polish design.
Being invited on behalf of FASHIONCLASH, attending the FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland gives a fertile opportunity to discover emerging Polish talent. Beside the many new names it was a pleasure to see new collection by Odio and Jakub Pieczarkowski and Bola, both shows where among the highlights of the fashion week. Bola is officially selected and invited to participate at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015 (June 11-14, Maastricht), which was a reward for her consistent development. Collection she presented was perhaps one of the best at 12th edition.

What else passed by on the runway?

Berlin based Polish-German designer Aleks Kurkowski presented a almost all black collection with men's and women's looks. The AW 2015 collection 'Romanticism & Reality issues the view of the world from the perspective of the Romantics artists. The collection is a nice and accessible fashionable collection with heavy wools, leather and raw cotton fabrics.

Berlin based Polish designer Dawid Tomaszewski presented his retrospective collection and received a Golden Flaming for the acclaimed contribution to the Polish fashion scene. The collection was staged as a runway tableau vivant showing the best of from the past 5 years of his career.

Klaudia Markiewicz

Project Runway Poland winner Jacob Birge Vision presented a modern and sexy collection with many design idea's combining asymmetry and innovation. Since graduating from EdinburghCollege of Art in 2012, Jacob Birge has made his way from step to step. In his short career span he has managed to emerge in the fashion scene. Originally a chemistry student studying at the University of Science and Technology, Kracow, he defected to Denmark after winning an Off Fashion prize, granting him free entrance to the fashion school there. From Denmark he came here to UK.
Another Project Runway Poland participant, finalist Maciek Sieradzky had the honor to close the fashion week in style.
Another refreshing surprise this edition was offerd by designer Klaudia Markiewicz, a second grade student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. She obtained the first grade diploma in March 2014 and already now managed to sweep away favorite reviews from the international guests this edition. Collection she presented was inspired by the iconic computer game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The action of the game takes place in a fictional Vice City, resembling Miami in the 1980's.

Łukasz Jemioł Basic

Łukasz Jemioł Basic proposed a fresh basics collection sending a rebellious massage to peace with 'NO WAR' slogans and signs. Energetic and the perfect closure of Friday evening while Portuguese guest designer Miguel Vieira closed the Saturday evening with grace and romance.

Berenika Czanota

Other notable mentions are designers Berenika Czanota with a function collection that includes knitwear fabrics, Jaroslaw Ewert with a collection with desirable menswear pieces and Grosky,
a brand established by designers Eryk Gorsky. AW2015/16 collection Extreme Evolution is a clash of urban modernity, mixing volumes, prints and styles.

Milidiami

The Studio and Off Out Of Schedule programme contained mostly younger generation of designers with several interesting proposals. Piotr Drżał presented a tasteful, well-styled menswear collection where men's classics, streetwear and sportswear are mixed to obtain independent individuality.
Another wearable menswear collection with careful attention to detail and quality hold the name of designer Wojtek Haratyk.
Promising brand NANKO, created by a fashion design student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, showed WAY OUT collection inspired by observation of the underground culture. Undertone, collection by Milidiami was inspired by fabrics that resemble the textures of stones, rust and erosion and contains materials like fake fur, metalics and waterproof fabrics. Romana's collection ASIA was inspired by the culture of Sakha, with kimono and folk costumes as a starting point.
Last but not least to mention is FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015 participant, Acephala (a headless woman), a brand established in 2014. Acephala combines conceptualism with minimal design approach and clothing that emphasizes craftsmanship.
