SANGUE NOVO
ModaLisboa - Lisboa Fashion Week
SS2016 'The Timers' edition
On Friday evening, ModaLisboa "The Timers" SS2016 edition opened with a new wave of talent. Sangue Novo (New Blood) is a platform for young Portuguese designers who get the opportunity to show their work within a collective fashion show. Among the selected designers FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015 participant
Carlotaoms from Spain has been chosen to show their collection.
Nine Portuguese designers where selected to show their collections and before the show started I had short encounter with each one of them backstage. Most of them have already been part of the Sangue Novo collective show,
Carolina Machado and
Sara Santos where the two new names.
Sara Santos debut was already awarded with success, taking home the ModaLisboa for her collection "Teentakeover" inspired in 60's street subculture and the traditional style of Mod culture from "the rebels without a cause". The ModaLisboa Award is a Master Level Certificate in the fashion area, a five weeks workshop in Milan offered by the DOMUS Academy and a scholarship awarded by Vulcano, to cover expenses related to the course.
Tânia Nicole has been chosen to represent ModaLisboa during the next edition FASHIONCLASH Festival in Maastricht (June 30 - July 3). Tânia's collection "Individuality" is inspired by "Men's Dress Reform Party" group, which joined several London artists and doctors in the late 1920's. A manifesto of comfort as wall as individuality and practicality.
Previous winners of FASHIONCLASH / ModaLisboa award
Inês Duvale and
Patrick de Padua where again part of the Sangue Novo show. Designers
Cristina Real, David Catalan, Inês Duvale,
Banda and
Ruben Damasio where the other names completing the schedule.
This edition of Sangue Novo can be summed up as perhaps the strongest one since my attendance. All designers showed potential but this time it was designer Tânia Nicole who had the most complete story from the artistic point of view as well as the quality of tailoring and details. Designers that have been showing already before within the context of Sangue Novo all made steps and proved to be worthy of support. Cristina Real impresses with consistency by showing a complete collection containing clothing, shoes, bags and jewelry. David Catalan know how to translate contemporary trends into his own aesthetics while Banda continues to develop an own identity with a narrative approach and innovative and fresh tailoring. Patrick de Padua presented another strong, this time almost all while collection. He explained that in comparison to his previous collection, that got his the FASHIONCLASH Festival participation and the KALTBLUT Magazine Award, he had the need to express a more silent and intimate story.
I am curious where their career paths will take them all in the near future, in any case I wish them all the best.
