Be Sassy, Get Salty

Be Sassy, Get Salty
a story by Chiara Morello and Sara Cencetti

Chiara Morello, young fashion designer, graduated from Polimoda academy in Florence last June.

"Having grown up in front of the sea, it came natural for me to talk about it in my "Be Sassy, Get Salty" collection, for my third year at Polimoda fashion school. I am fascinated by the nautical world and by someone who smells salty, who just came from a boat trip.
I started to draw a young man who was thinking about the sea like it's his escape from the real world, the mainland. In his cozy enviroment he feels free to be himself indeed, to show his true colors, and he's free to play like a child without thinking about the other grounded grown up.
That's why when I look at the final result I can see huge volumes, bright colors and unusual knitting and textile effects with the sand. Everything is allowed, as long as it's playful.
Although when he comes back and he steps in the ground, right in the limbo where boat trips start and end, that's when our story happens, when my man fights with his salty, childish comfortable feeling and the knowledge that this won't be good for the adult society. That's when Sara comes to help me rappresenting the man of my drawings."

Sara Cencetti, photographer

"Through photography I tried to bring to life the world Chiara imagined for her collection: a "salty" world seen through the eyes of an almost adult guy, although he doesn't want to let his child side go. That's why Martin during the shooting had to think of himself like a child, free to be himself and to "play" with what he was finding around him.
We "played" back and forth: he was playing his role, and on the other hand I was playing the observer who tries to spy the lonely character. I tried to look at him with a shy and curious point of view at the same time.
The post production effects then are meant to represent this oniric world even more: the strong chromatic contrast between hot and cold colors simbolyze the character interior fight, on the edge between childhood and a more mature world."
