The fourth wave of feminism and a female collective with a strong sisterhood are amongst the things that sparked the new collection by student-run fashion brand iNDiViDUALS. The collection presentation exhibited the brand’s latest infatuation: a girl gang of unapologetic ladies – a representation of feminists in the current Zeitgeist. Upon arrival, guests were welcomed by a projection of the brand’s first fashion film: Ladies Will Be Ladies. The rest of the space immersed guests further into the brand’s investigation of this strong group of women who live by the motto #LadiesWillBeLadies.
During a surprise catwalk show, models owned the catwalk with attitude and confidence as they showed the A/W 16-17 collection – an ode to both the tough and soft sides of femininity. Oversized silhouettes balanced with cinched waistlines and ruffles show a playful take on stereotypical sartorial options that are usually available for women. Delicate knits and velvet pieces in pink are combined with tough work wear references such as enlarged pockets and D-rings. Emblematic for this collection is the statement all-over print, used in several items, in which frowned upon characteristics of women are stated. By letting women wear these words with pride, iNDiViDUALS further underlines the brand’s contemporary take on femininity this season.
The A/W 16-17 collection will be available at the byAMFI Statement Store and Outspoken Concept Store from September 2016.
