Walter van Beirendonck S/S 2015
One of the shows that I always look forward to is Walter van Beirendonck, and in the case of the ss collection he presented this week in Paris it was a pleasure to see it from few steps away.
With his work he takes you to another world, he plays with codes and cuts in fashion with humor and at the same time addresses heavy issues. As much as he is part of the industry he remains one of a kind. All combined is exactly what it should be; fun relevant and in case of this collection also very beautiful.
His Spring Summer 2015 collection, entitled 'Whambam' was inspired by the lack of privacy we are having in this fast-moving society and the contradiction between paradise and the dark side of the world. The collection featured stunning brocade jacquard jackets and bright colors which gave it an overall rich, exotic and fresh feel.
For this collection he cooperated with many creatives, paintings are by Scooter LaForge, headpieces are designed by Jacques Blankwater, Charlie le Mindu was responsible for hair and so on.

Raf Simons SS 2015 Menswear
Intimate, Emotional and Radical
For his spring/summer 2015 menswear collection Raf Simons stripped down the glamour at Espace Vendome with an intimate and personal show. Happening is a better word as this was so much more than a fashion show. First of all he disrupted the hierarchical fashion system codes by making everyone equal and invited the audience to stand. No seaters, everyone is front row. Runway was a pathway, created by the audience where models circulated and passing by looking effortlessly.
For this collection he went back to his aesthetic and fascinations of his early career years. It felt like he was looking back to his past moodboards, he literally used his old family images in the collages that where covering the back of most of the garments. His parents also attended the presentation.
Set under a haze of red light, audience was asked not to use flash on their phones and camera's. Although difficult to really see all the details, this was exactly the point he wanted to make, to really experience the presentation. It all felt meaningful and timeless. For me this was the first time to actually attend Raf Simons show and I felt 'invited' to experience 'Raf Simons'. Thank you.

Off Out Of Schedule - 10th FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland
| Zwyrd |
Off Out Of Schedule show are my favorite at FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland. This season new generation of young Polish designers hit the stage with their collections. MoMi-Ko kicked the program of with a very nice collection, in particular the styling was well done. It gave the whole collection a very rich feel. Labels Kas Kryst and Szpila presented cool collections with many must have pieces.
Designer Grzegorz Marcisz surprised with his debut collection under the label name ZWYRD. This was one of the most fresh collections of the FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland. His collectin CORE is a response to Poland's ubiquitous intolerance of anything different. The collection is inspired by heavy and mysterious music, a deciduous forest in autumn and a fascination with the structure of bark. ZWYRD is invited to take part at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2014.
What makes the Off Out Of Schedule so interesting is that the designers are trying something different with their stage presentation such as BLOT who's show contained a live 'screen print' performance. In fact BLOT is a screenprinting and clothing design workshop founded by Agnieszka Natasza Splewińska, Dorota Maron and Magda Saba Samborska.
Paulina Ptashnik, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, gave a memorable show with presentation of her ”01:23:58″ collection. Her show had a magical and at the same time disturbing touch with the use of music and styling.

Fashion Rio Winter 2014

– Inverno 2014 (Winter 2014)
Text: Katharina Simone Milz

Tropical palm trees, white tents at the waterfront of Pier Mauá and colorful lights – that’s the background for Fashion Rio, one of the biggest fashion events in Latin America. Focusing on Brazilian fashion labels, the event succeeds in presenting not only established designers but also creates a platform for new labels. The atmosphere at Fashion Rio is intimate and the event clearly focuses on the national perspective, which can be difficult for international press as almost nobody speaks English at the event. At the same time, this is a great chance to encounter authentic Brazilian fashion and explore current developments.
The first show, I attended on behalf of BRANKOPOPOVICBLOG, was by “Sacada.” The “Sacada” collection was inspired by Indian influences, which was visible through rich and embroidered fabrics as much as the choice of colors, for example dark red and deep yellow combined with earth-colors. Beti Speiski, creative director of “Sacada,” explained in an interview that she witnessed a demonstration of seamstresses in India while she was on a business trip there. The picture of the protests inspired her to the latest collection and some of the pieces were also produced in India.
This is Brazilian label “Iódice” second time at Fashion Rio. The main idea behind this collection is the modern hunter, who combines traditional elements from nature with modern fabrics such as silk and neoprene. Brazilian designer Valdemar Iódice put the main focus on patterns and prints and therefore chose classic silhouettes. The pieces made of silk amazed the audience by their prints that appeared like drawings of branches. Through a mix of colors, unique prints and patterns, “Iódice” created an interesting winter collection between hunter’s and urban chic.

After my first three shows at Fashion Rio, I’m very excited to get to know more Brazilian labels and to find out what makes fashion in Brazil special and different.

Ricardo Dourado - ModaLisboa Ever.Now
Ricardo Dourado show took place in front of the town hall in Lissabon.
Looking back to ModaLisboa Ever. Now this is one of the better collections. Both the men's and women's pieces where as strong, which was not the case in shows by fellow designers. As a collection it was perhaps not as consistent but the collection contained a variety in shapes, silhouettes and prints. Throughout the show there was never a dull moment.

Luís Buchinho ss2014 ModaLisboa Ever.Now
Luís Buchinho is a new name to me but in Portugal it is an established designer. The show took place outside, with Lissabon town hall as the backdrop. This presentation suited the collection in favor. Highlights of the collection where the jackets and the prints.

Maastricht & Euregio Meuse-Rhine 2018 bid book presentation
In 2018, the Netherlands and Malta will be providing the two European Capitals of Culture. In December 2008 and 2009, the Maastricht municipal council decided to put the city forward as a candidate. Maastricht will not be alone, because the candidacy is being supported by the Dutch Province of Limburg and is being shaped in close cooperation with our partners Aachen, Liège, Heerlen, Hasselt and Sittard-Geleen. The Belgian provinces of Limburg and Liège, the Aachen region and the German-speaking Community in Belgium are also involved. That means that Maastricht is a candidate on behalf of the entire Meuse-Rhine Euroregion.

Report about 'The Life and Death of Marina Abramović'

This weekend I was in Manchester to see the play/performance 'The Life and Death of Marina Abramović'.
Since I got the tickets last year I was looking forward to this and it was more than worth it. It was the most beautiful things I've ever seen on stage. The combination of great artists on one stage in one play. Everything was just brilliant: the music, the performances, the sound, costumes, Antony, Marina Abramović, Willem Dafoe, Svetlana Spajic Group, performers. Antony is an angel!
Robert Wilson has created a masterpiece that you really have to see. Next year it will be on Holland Festival iand this year in Madrid (Teatro Real).
As you may have noticed I am a big fan of Marina Abramović and I got the chance to meet her, it was a very short encounter but very precious. I aslo met Willem Dafoe and Svetlana Spajić.
Take a look at this blog for a wonderful report.
