Polimoda Rendez-Vous

On Wednesday December 12th, the Polimoda Rendez-Vous series hosted a guest lecture by my on behalf of FASHIONCLASH.
Within the artistic context FASHION MAKES SENSE. My Rendez-Vous talk digged into how FASHIONCLASH stimulates fashion audiences to consider the state of the industry: “What is the importance and role of fashion in our society, and how can fashion contribute to our well-being and a better world?”
"Are you willing to make some kind of a difference? This isn't just a political idea, you can make a difference by creating something so beautiful that you allow people to detach from reality. And even if it's just one person you touch, then it's worth making" — Branko Popovic

My Unmade Bed Project

My Unmade Bed, a project by Álvaro Dols

A while I go I received in invitation to participate in My Unmade Bed project.
My Unmade Bed is a online showcase that features work made by the general public in response to invitations sent by Álvaro Dols.
Participants receive an invitation with an assignment to take a photograph of their unmade beds after sleeping on them and to answer few questions.
The “prescriptive nature” of this project is intended to guide people on showing a realistic yet metaphorical and most intimate self-portrait. As the English artist Tracey Emin shows in her work entitled “ My bed” (1998), her own bed is represented without any extra ornament. The artist presents her bed as an art piece and shares her most personal space revealing her private and personal space. That is the purpose of “My Unmade Bed”, showing the artist’s bed as their real self-portrait, as their true and intimate self.

TEFAF Parade 2014
14 - 23 March

During TEFAF, Maastricht will surprise and delight visitors in the city centre with the traditional and impressive shop window parade. This year, the TEFAF Parade has the theme 'Made in Maastricht’.
The work of more than 39 divergent artists will be on display in various shop windows dispersed throughout the city. From photographers, fashion designers, and illustrators to architects, interior designers, musicians, choreographers, and even tattoo artists; from emerging talent to established names: they all have at least one thing in common: the city of Maastricht! A beautiful collection - never exhibited before - of graphic sketches and designs by Maastricht-based artists in poster format.

here's my 'Made in Maastricht' sketch
Among the participants there are also several designers such as Marsha Kessels, Gabriel Guevara, Chequita Nahar, FASHIONCLASH team (Nawie Kuiper, Laurens Hamacher, Branko Popovic) and many more.

Festival for fashion & photography distinguishes itself by not only following the recent developments in fashion and photography but also focusing on forward-looking aesthetic trends, technological possibilities and forms of presentation. The MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art is the festival’s new venue and co-operation partner. Here, the Fashion Talk about Staging Fashion - Collecting and Displaying Contemporary Fashion Today, Lidewij Edelkoort’s trend seminar, the AFA-Austria Fashion Awards, and the departure fashion night will take place. Moreover, the EVOQUE NextGen Award, which is sponsored for the third time by Land Rover Austria and is aimed at the youngest generation of local fashion designers.

AFA -  Austria Fashion Awards 2013

Every year the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture, the Culture Department of the City of Vienna and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce together with the Unit F büro fur mode appoint an independent jury of experts for the AFA-Austria Fashion Awards for Fashion Designers.

For this edition I have been invited to join the jury and I had a very lovely Skype encounter with Antje Mayer who tool my interview.

The fashion shows of the prize-winners are taking place this year on 21 November in the MAK in Vienna.
Doors open: 19.30, Start: 20.30. By invitation only!

'The Fashion Socializer' interview by Antje Mayer

I meet Branko Popovic in Maastricht, he meets me in Vienna, virtually, really on Skype. For one charming hour we chat about “all the world and his wife”, fashion and Vienna. The occasion: this year for the first time Branko is a member of the jury for the Austrian Fashion Awards 13. Born a Croatian, as a twelve-year-old he had to flee from the Yugoslavian War to the Netherlands. There he is now a busy blogger, fashion designer and co-founder of the young Fashionclash (festival) in Maastricht. He tells me why he believes in the experimental fashion scene in Vienna and why fashion is maybe more interesting than art these days.

The project is a collaboration by finalists of SYTYCD (So You Think You Can Dance tv show) Natascha Dejong and Uri Eugenio, choreographer Joost Vrouenraerts and designer Branko Popovic.  As you may know I am a huge fan of contemporary dance so it meant a lot to me to be a part of this project and to work with this talented people. The whole project came to life in just one weak and the result is stunning!
