Sangue Novo - ModaLisboa Multiplex

Victor Huarte
The fashion show schedule of the ModaLisboa - Multiplex edition kicked off on Friday evening with Sangue Novo (New Blood) platform. Ten young designers where selected to show their collection, among them the FASHIONCLASH Festival talent Pu Tianqu from China. Since several editions, the platform has been broadened to include international designers, making it an exciting mix.
On behalf of FASHIONCLAH, I had the pleasure to meet all the designers and choose one as winner of FASHIONCLASH Festival 2019. Making the decision was not easy! All candidates presented interesting proposals. Eventually there can be only one winner and this Carolina Raquel was named winner.
Her collection ‘induviae’ explores meaningless and meaningful relationships between ourselves and our garments. By elevating them to the core object of debate, ‘induviae’ ponders new meanings about garments as personal objects and, consequently as a valuable depository of memory.
The Co.Re designer duo won the The Feeting Room prize. Their collection 'Modern Daze' is is inspired by the growing epidemic of anxiety. They aim to show a glimpse of the syndrom and how it restricts the people who live with it daily.

Six designer where selected by the jury for the Sangue Novo Award which gives the the opportunity to show their collection in March 2019. Each of them received a monet prize of 1000 euros to develop their new collection. The same jury will elect the ModaLisboa Sangue Novo prize winner in partnership with Polimoda. The winner will receove a 5000 euros scholarship  and will have the opportunity to attend Polimoda Master in fashion design in Florence.
The six finalists are Carolina Raquel, Opiar, Rita Carvalho, Federico Protto, Rita Carvalho and Archie Dickens.

Certainly, worth mentioning is Saskia Lenaerts who will proceed her path at the MA at Central Saint Martins. She presented 'Rare Fruit' collection that stands for diversity, a stating that nowadays everybody is a hybrid. The collection is based on the remaining effects of colonialism.
"This collection is based in the remaining effects of colonialism. It questions the sustainability of the global garment circulation and simultaneously, challenges and raises humanitarian issues concerning decolonization and otherness, as I believe the two are undeniable intertwined."
Last but not least, the one-to-watch- Spanish designer Victor Huarte, whose collection Britannia is inspired by the celebration of 4th of July at Eton school ships procession in England. Presenting a playful reinterpretation of folklore and experimenting with mens/womenswear clothing codes.

Sangue Novo - ModaLisboa FW 2018

The 50th edition of ModaLisboa - Lisboa Fashion Week fashion show schedule kicked off with emering designers. Still, after 25 years ModaLisboa continues their support for new talent through Sangue Novo (New Blood) platform. 8 designers where selected to show their collection, among them Federico Cina,  the winner of FASHIONCLASH Festival 2017 talent award.

On behalf of FASHIONCLAH, I had the pleasure to meet all the designers and choose one as winner of FASHIONCLASH Festival 2018.
Rita Sá has been awarded with the price. She will join the very talented Filipe Augusto, the winner of October 2017 edition. Both designers will take part at the 10th edition of FASHIONCLASH Festival in Maastricht.

Rita Sá presented her playful and all indigo blue collection that is based on the motto “If you have a glass ceiling, don´t throw rocks in the air”. “Telhados de Vidro” describes the game played by those who desperately try to be something they are not; masked hypocrites who feel the need of ostentation in a “make-believe” world. Attacking others for problems that they also have, the individuals who make the collection choose to believe that it is better to be a false somebody than a real nobody.
The collection show build on a grading concept from the first to the last look. The blue colour in the collection references the use of plastic bags, creating the idea of something that is disposable.

Rita Sá
Filipe Augusto impressed with his second collection 'Harvests' inspired by the harvested memories, past and present, based on real characters and their strenuous and joyful journey through the traversed Douro.

Inês Nunes do Valle expressed the current state of fashion with a collection 'I'm in the wrong joke'. She has been awarded the The Feeting Room concept store award.

Federico Protto
is currently based in Hungary, educated in Vienna but his origins are in Uruguay. The collection’s main inspiration is the journey to his birthplace Montevideo, making him This question the idea of origin and destination. His journeys are reflected in his eclectic collection that contains traditional, historical and ethnological elements of his birthplace. Referencing the cowhide as a main material and the Gaucho - an archetype of a South American persona - in a figurative and also abstract manner.
'I see my garments more as energetic artefacts, the person wearing them as gender fluid and utopian shaman of the digital times.

Furthermore the show featured Opiar and N'a Pas de Quoi, both brands formed by two designers. Opiar presented 'Fake it until you make it' mixing romantic and sport elements that are reflecting the designers' characteristics. N'a Pas de Quoi where inspired by Opheila and Pre-Raphaelite. Designer Isidro Paiva's collection 'Beauty of Misfit' is a playfull adaption of clothing elements we know and subtle details that you can discover up close.

Inês Duvale - KARMA SS2015 Lookbook

PHOGRAPHY: João Manuel Gonçalves
STYLING: Sara Morais
JEWELRY: Inês Nunes
MODELS: Nelson Bolela E João Pacheco (BLAST MODELS)
HAIR: Carla Neiva
MAKE UP: Marla Make up artist
PRODUCTION ASSISTENT: Joana Santos

Inês Duvale‘s “KARMA” SS15 collection is an process of self knowledge and belief. It stands for action and movement, for in every action we take there will be a reaction. Bringing the concept into this collection I have interpreted the effects action-reaction trough protection symbols: 3 circles, a movement symbol, masculine reference enhancer of the movement of forces. It all comes together into a streetwear collection, with flowy garments made of juxtapositions where minimalism is the key – all of this allied to the line that forms the circle.

LANA SIBERIE - OFF STRAND Maastricht

Meet LANA SIBERIE, one of the designers joining OFF STRAND Maastricht during FASHIONCLASH Festival Side Program.
Founded in 2010 by Iulia Filipovscaia, LANA SIBERIE is  inspired by her mother, Svetlana, an avid knitter, LANA is short for Iulia's mother given name and SIBERIE (Siberia) is where the family are from.
The debut collection featured 12 unique crochet-knit pieces, all 100% handmade. LANA SIBERIE continues to make custom made orders for clients such as supermodel Natalia Vodianova and her charity, The Naked Heart, but as much as LS's love for handmade knitwear remains undiminished, 2013 saw the first endeavor into the world of ready-to-wear fashion.

LANA SIBERIE AW14 collection was on display at Copenhagen, London and Paris Fashion Weeks and both SS14 and AW14 seasons are debuting at LN-CC store in London.

Iulia is an artist and designer living and working in London. She has a B.A. in Fine Arts from Central St. Martins College of Art and Design (2007), and a M.A. in Image and Communication from Goldsmiths University of London (2009).

"Our collections explore the theme of material emulation. Having been brought up in the diamond-mining town of Mirniy in Siberia, minerals have always held a symbolic potency in designer’s life. This interest found its way into ‘FOUNDTON’ collection in the form of woven patterns replicating marble textures, the collection transformed into a game, neary alchemic. GROWTH is a continuation of SS14, its second phase. Through replication of marble textures by use of jacquard technique, collection this time focuses on Nature. Eastern Siberia, where the designer spent her childhood, is surrounded by taiga, a vast wild coniferous forest (EMERALD) that during winter is covered with iridescent blanket of snow (PEARL), when short but warm summer sees earthy colours of soil and needles covering the ground beneath you (BRUST + SAND). These are the colours of the new collection."

Dennis Diem FW 2014

Dennis Diem sent his models on sky-high heels shoes on the runway at Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam. Although most models pulled it off just fine, there where a few  stumbling models. One of the girls really fell flat on her face and the this caused a shock reaction in the audience. However this turned out to be an act.
Since there have been several cases of falling models in his shows in the past Dennis Diem decided to do sometjing with the "Fall" phenomenon. There models were dancers who were hired to fake their fall. This created quite a stir in the audience who wanted to help the fallen girls.

In happen to be that last year during FASHIONCLASH Festival, Sophie Mantel already made a performance inspired by the 'fall' phenomenon. Read more here.
