Bluedenîmes & Minou Lejeune
Bluedenîmes & Minou Lejeune at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015
The two designers met at MAFAD academy in Maastricht where they both graduated from in 2014. Dusty Thomas was one of the finalists at Lichting 2014, best of Dutch fashion graduates.
Their collaboration proved to be a very fertile offering a very fresh menswear proposal and striking accessories.
Dusty Thomas, born and based in Landgraaf, Netherlands has been designing clothing for three years and to her, fashion is the art of dressing the body. Dressing the human body creates stories. She loves stories about functional clothing. It intrigues her that clothing makes life easier for people in different situations. "We are fragile creatures after all; we need protection and cover."
Our dependency and need for fashion to express ourselves fascinates her. She aspires to make beautiful clothes for the male body through becoming a technical clothing expert. Learning about the male coupe in order to become a pattern-producing and sewing expert. Expressing her thoughts and interests in the wearable clothes she produces is what she needs to keep her mind calm and satisfied.
For FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015 she worked together with jewellery/props designer Minou Lejeune who designed the head accessories for her collection inspired by the pure and beautiful Arctic areas on our planet. Even though it's an AW collection its main function is not to warm the body. She wants her collection to emit the cold. She wants to shape the ice and the cold into her clothing. Her catwalk show will feel like an icy wind.

Rafael Kouto at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015
Swiss designer, Rafael Kouto, presented his diploma collection 'Drag me to the after hour to the dark side of the moon' during FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015
“This collection takes inspiration from the evolution of the phases of the moon. It explores the phenomenon of the diffraction of light, from the deepest black to a blinding white. It will take you along a fantastic wandering, where you will meet shadows, dark silhouettes and stellar eclipses. A world of pale illusions looming and where silver shadows arise. A landscape unseen with human eyes, hidden in the night and coming to light imminently. The mask of darkness is now unveiled, light shining so bright that it becomes impossible to make out day and night. The collection is a vision of a fascinating ideal, where bodies are illuminated by the timeless moonlight and reversed in tone. They are not from here and now. Staring at the moon, dreaming about how pure and sublime this very faraway island out in space might be. This kingdom is much closer than one would think. Admiring reflective surfaces is like going on a journey straight within oneself. Now that this is uncovered, stop looking elsewhere!”

L A T - winner FASHIONCLASH Festival Talent Award 2015
L A T is a brand by young designer Lautaro Amadeo Tambutto, born in Argentina and now based in Milan. He is the winner of FASHIONCLASH Festival Talent Award 2015. His collection is a contemporary interpretation of his country of origin, contaminated with a constant reference to the taste of the underground European metropolis as we can see from fits and styling. Folklore is missing, no nostalgia shouted. But the desire to re-establish a new concept of LAT (Latin American) that goes beyond the clichés.

Hermione Flynn - FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015
Looking back to the 7th edition FASHIONCLASH Festival is a real pleasure, especially when things collide into timeless moments. When fashion becomes more than just clothes and skips a heartbeat because we can just be who ever we want to be without looking away. When fashion places a mirror to confront us with what beauty really means. The moment when transgender model Gia Bab, divine human being, steps on the stage it always impresses. But this time it was everything and more.
Conceptual designer Hermione Flynn staged a catwalk performance with minimal but highly effective acts, expressing her collection '(In)Difference'.
Taking unisex to a a higher level this collection explores gender codes and gender inequality.

Flora Miranda at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015
Meet Flora Miranda, one of the designers at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015.
Flora was born and raised in Austria, had been experiencing art since her early years - her artistic roots shared the genes of creativity Her childhood and youth was filled with many artistic achievements, what resuletd in graduating at Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
"I presented not only the fashion collection _sidereal_ethereal_immatereal_ but also a piece of art: „Openinghours“, a huge velvet curtain that brings to discussion our sexuality and physical sense in the age of the Internet. These two works spring from my intense occupation with the human body and constant search for it´s different potentials. In the fashion collection I created a digital, immaterial, deathearted physique. In opposition to this I made the public search for sensuality within the digital dimension with the art piece. "
What does your collection try to communicate (what is about)?
The collection _sidereal_ethereal_immatereal_ is based on the phenomenon of quantum physics and tele transportation. I visualized how it would look like if a human body is pure information, how it would dissolve in its single particles to travel from a to b. Imagine you can just break up you physical borders, leave behind the heaviness of your physique. In a way that is actually what we possibly imagine death to be like, but here I did not work upon spirituality but the technological progress of our time.

Juliëtte Heijnen at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015
This year at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015, she presented her new collection with a fashion performance within the Gedner curated exposition.
"The collection that I presented at FASHIONCLASH Festival is about all kinds of gender. What I wanted to express through this collection is that it doesn’t matter if you are heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, transsexual, or whatever kind of sexual. The important thing is that we are all searching for our soul mate in our lives. That is to say, everyone is on the same journey. Therefore, we must accept everyone and their uniqueness".

VERWEVEN 2015 - Nina Willems
Schueller De Waal
A project of theatrical performer Nina Willems in the context of FASHIONCLASH Festival
What do the clothes you wear tell us about who you are? And what is the role of clothing in relation to GENDER?
For "VERWEVEN", 3 people where asked to tell the stories behind the clothes they wear. How do these clothes reflect their personalities and memories? And how do they use clothes to express their gender?
Every interview resulted in a short film. For every person that is interviewed, one young designer created an entirely new outfit, that reflects their personality.
VERWEVEN 2015 was the opening performance of FASHIONCLASH Festival.
Transgender model Gia Bab took the first steps on the runway this edition wearing creation by David Laport. The performance was accompanied by Bird Gehrl song by Antony and the Johnsons. Following Gia, Milou van Duijnhoven and Selm Wenselaers took the stage. Three beautiful human beings where wearing outfits inspired by their own story. All together an unforgettable experience and perfect embodiment of the festival's gender topic.
For FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015, Nina Willems created " VERWEVEN LIVE", an impressive installation that engaged the visitors of the festival. The VERWEVEN installation invited the visitors
to tell the stories about the clothes they wore at the moment. This short stories where edited right away and included in the installation as short documentaries that show personal stories about the clothes we wear and about the role fashion plays in our daily lives, and in particular how fashion plays a role in our gender expression.

Gender Exhibition - FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015
VERWEVEN 2015 by Nina Willems
Curated exhibition at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015
Gender is the sociocultural identity that relates to a person’s biological sex. it is said that this identity is a performance, since there is not only one way to male or female. Gender is perceived as a spectrum nowadays. it’s a stirring topic that has also been very present in fashion this year due to fashion’s ability to reflect one’s mood, personality and identity to theworld.
FASHIONCLASH Festival takes a stand for gender diversity and individualism. the festival wants to raise awareness about the problems that occur when it comes to gender issues and how crucial public opinion about it can be. that’s why this exposition gathers artists that are also challenged to think about the different aspects of gender. they offer the viewer a new perspective by illustrating what gender means to them individually. For instance, the works address gender in other cultures, transgenderism, gender in history, gender in media, body expression, etcetera are exhibited. FASHIONCLASH Festival brings together these different works and visions and celebrates self expression and diversity.

Highlights of the FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015
VERWEVEN 2015 by Nina Willems designer David Laport image Peter Stigter
The 7th edition of the festival presented more than 150 talents from over 30 countries. It was a very sunny weekend with happy visitors and radiant designers and artists, the shows were packed and sold out. The whole of Maastricht was dominated by fashion and the celebration of talent and diversity.
GENDER Edition, celebration of diversity and self-expression
FASHIONCLASH believes that fashion as an art form can stimulate critical debate about current controversial issues which are discussed in society. This year's overarching theme during the FC Festival was GENDER. The theme shaped the overall festival and was interwoven through the program inviting the audience to think about the broader spectrum within the gender codes. The theme was mostly reflected in the Gender exhibition on main location, the Opening Show with VERWEVEN 2015 project by theatre performer Nina Willems, Fashion Talk with Aynouk Tan, Meet the Maker at Bureau Europe and the Tabula Rasa dance performance that literally brought the festival's campaign image of the festival to life. Tabula Rasa is a joint project of FASHIONCLASH, Project Sally Maastricht and Mieke Kockelkorn. The festival's main location scenography and spatial design was designed by Studio Stad inspired by 'Queer Space' and gender.

The fashion shows were complemented by a multidisciplinary exhibition where a selection of creative work curated around the theme of gender was exhibited. The former interior design factory of Mosa was temporarily transformed into an innovative museum, where selected art works relayed the different visions of gender in various ways. Think among others photography, illustration, clothing, video, object and shoe design. In the exhibition the visitors had the chance to browse through installations by designers such as Maison the Faux, Amber Ambrose Aurele & Kesha Felipa, Begüm Yıldırım, Matthijs Holland, Camiel Fortgens and a fashion performance by Juliëtte Heijnen. One of the highlights of the exhibition was the 25 meters long digital painting 'Openinghours' on fabric by designer Flora Miranda.
VERWEVEN 2015, a performance project created by theatre performer Nina Willems, was yet again one of the main attractions of the exhibition. Three people were asked to tell the stories behind the clothes that they wear. How do these clothes reflect their personalities, memories and feelings? And how do they use their clothes to express gender? Every interview resulted in a short film. For every person that was interviewed, one young designer created an entirely new outfit which reflected their personality. Designers David Laport, Loes van Nijnatten en Schueller de Waal were all invited to take part.

Visitors were also able to visit the ‘Clash Project’, one of the main highlights of the festival, in the exhibition area. The project placed its focus on the connection between disciplines and visions. In other words it embodied the interdisciplinary spirit FASHIONCLASH tries to propagate. Ten non-fashion designers were invited to share their vision according to their artistic discipline in relation to fashion. Ultimately this lead to a 'clash' of philosophical, cultural and practical methodologies. As a result a new hybrid discipline took form.
Each year Clash project causes a clash and fascination by the audience with surprising proposals and out-of the box creativity. This year again, we enjoyed creations by Charlotte Van de Velde, Roos Gomperts, Alexandra Karpilovski, Jan Pieter Kaptein and Stefan Auberg.
DESIGNER MARKET

This exhibition included iconic designs of Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier and Comme des Garçons. Bureau Europa hosted the 'Meet the Maker' exhibition where visitors could meet the artists themselves. Theater performer Luca Szymkowiak performed ‘In the Milky Ways of eternity’ at Marres.
