MOOI Festival Antwerp

Y/Project
MOOI Festival, a festival about the beautiful things in fashion of the future,  took place in Antwerp 29 and 30 October in de Studio in Antwerp.

Villanella art center opened up a dialogue with the fashion world. In collaboration with designer, innovator and curator Bruno Pieters, the festival showed the state of the mind of the 'sustainable'  fashion scene in Antwerp and provided a platform for debate aiming to stimulate the start of a new way of thinking that will activate both new as established players in the industry to think.

The two day festival contained exhibition, Labo, talks and a fabric fair.
Exhibition curated by Bruno Pieters displayed Antwerp fashion talent that approaches fashion from ethical, sustainable and responsible point of view. The exhibition featured work by
Y/Project, Rombaut, Jan Jan Van Essche, Daniel Andresen, Katrien Van Hecke, Ilke Cop and innovative projects such as The Post Couture Collective and Honest By.
Labo programme showed innovative techniques and initiatives by Martijn van Strien and Freitag.
Another innovative project that had its first presentation is
TexUp that showed the results of Textiel Upcyclage Labo. This is a thinktank platform where fashion and costume designers, product developers and artists meet. The residual clothes and linen from the Radisson Blu Hotel are reused through innovative, circular and creative techniques.
Five selected fashion and costume designers, product developers and artists from the Lab took on the leftover hotel textiles and designed firsthand pieces. The designers were coached by Ilke Cop and Lisa Konno.

Preview of High Fashion Low Countries

Lena Lumelsky

On July 13th High Fashion Low Countries showed a sneak preview in collaboration with Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond as an official part of Amsterdam Fashion Week Downtown.

HIGH FASHION LOW COUNTRIES is a vivid example of how relevant entities and cutting-edge designers from Belgium and The Netherlands are taking note of changing times, realizing that cultural entities, not just businesses, need to think broadly and imaginatively to ensure their continuing excellence and long-term success. Sustainable development, craftsmanship, the use of alternative materials and a less-seasonal view on fashion have gained attention amongst entrepreneurs and emerging designers in both countries.

For this project each designer worked on a capsule collection of three looks that will be presented in an upcoming exhibition in Brussels from October 12th to 26th 2012 (MAD Brussels and Modo Parcours)

One look out of each collection is presented here in exclusive at De Brakke Grond during Amsterdam Fashion Week.
A must-see tip for everyone who is in Amsterdam during the fashion week!

Project curated by:
Javier Barcala (The Believers + La Fortuna Studio)
Eve-Marie Kuijstermans

Dutch designers: Jantine van Peski, Pauline van Dongen and Natalie de Koning.
Belgian designers: Lena Lumelsky, Céline de Schepper and Katrien van Hecke

Preview High Fashion Low Countries during Amsterdam Fashion Week

Preview High Fashion Low Countries
Friday July 13th 2012 at Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond in Amsterdam

The project High Fashion Low Countries is an initiative of the Dutch Embassy in Brussels and aims to strengthen existing partnerships between Belgium and the Netherlands on slow fashion and innovation. Three Dutch designers (Jantine Van Peski, Natalie de Koning, Pauline Van Dongen) and three designers from Belgium (Céline De Schepper, Katrien Van Hecke, Lena Lumelsky) were invited to work on a capsule collection that combines sustainability, craftmanship with alluring and innovative design.

The project will have a range of activities in 2012 in both countries: an exhibition (in collaboration with MAD Brussels during Modo Brussel 2012), an open call to students, networking meetings, the launch of a movie and a magazine (in collaboration with Glamcult) and a seminar in collaboration with Flanders Fashion Institute.

The first results will be displayed during the Amsterdam Fashion Week in partnership with the Flemish cultural centre de Brakke Grond. From July 13th until 15th the first 6 outfits from the designers will be on view together with the launch of the magazine and a preview of the film. Next to the HFLC preview, de Brakke grond presents the expo House of 100 Hands. On July 15th the event will end with The Green Fashion Bazaar, organized by Amsterdam Fashion Week and Doortje Vintage.
