Les Deux Garçons - Museum aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht

The Dutch artist duo ‘Les Deux Garçons’
are presenting their
their first retrospective ‘PURE’ in Maastricht at Museum aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht.

Sculptures of taxidermy, bronze statues and free-style assemblage show the diversity of artists.
Atelier Les Deux Garçons was founded by the artists Roel Moonen (1966) and Michel Vanderheijden van Tinteren (1965). Originally from Limburg the artists met in Maastricht and have been working together since 2000. The duo enjoys international fame with their sculptures of taxidermy, in which mounted animals receive human features.
With their distinctive and intriguing imagery Les Deux Garçons create absurdistic, sometimes moving or humorous objects, made with materials found at the taxidermist, at auctions or at antique dealers.

Reflection
Les Deux Garçons present their deer, lambs, piglets, dogs and other animals often as Siamese twins with accessories such as colourful porcelain, toys and all kinds of useful objects. These symbolize fear, fate and mortality. In their creations, the artists shun no themes, whether it be instinctive, artistic urge or in the prompting by current affairs.

The exhibition is open until 6th June 2016.

So what is Secret Postcards project all about
Secret Postcards is a very unique sort of exhibition that is not like any other. The artists produce postcard-sized works of art that are exhibited anonymously and can be purchased for a modest sum. It's a concept that is entirely new to the Netherlands: a high-quality exhibition that is easily accessible to the public because it's held outside the museum.
What's important here is the visitor's own perception and interpretation. The exhibited artworks will not be readily identifiable. Secret Postcards challenges the audience to cross the frontiers of their usual way of working. The artists taking part in Secret Postcards have been recommended by a team of four curators from celebrated museums and cultural organisations.
The choice is outstanding and the experience is very refreshing!

Requiem, a visual spectacle by Nanine Linning

It's During Tefaf festival and each year there is a dance evening. This year it is a very special one, an very impressive interdisciplinary work of art.  After hugh success in Germany  'Requiem' celebrated it's Dutch premiere tonight at Theater a/h Vrijthof.
First part is an exhibition on stage where the audience can walk through and the second part is a dance performance.
In REQUIEM Nanine Linning imagines the tension between life and death, the profane and the sacred, the carnal and the spiritual. Themes, which are inextricably linked together and are at the same time absolute opposites. Inspired by Fauré's “Requiem”, Dante's “La Divina Commedia” and the absurd and surreal images of the artist duo “Les Deux Garçons”, Linning is searching for her own paradise on earth.

You can see a picture report of the exhibition part here, and if you want to experience it take a look a the tour: http://www.naninelinning.nl/
