In No Particular Order 2016

Collect: Karin Vlug & Lisa Konno
In No Particular Order 2016, the exhibition curated by Agata Jaworska, took part during Dutch Design Week
.

In No Particular Order presented a selection of work by 32 designers active in the fields of design, architecture, and digital culture. The featured designers received year-long funding from the Creative Industries Fund NL from 2015 to 2016.
for the 2016 edition exhibition, curator Agata Jaworska provided insights into what it means to have a practice. How do designers strive to create the conditions in which they work? What can we learn from the emerging methods and ways of working? Through conversations and submitted sketches, the designers reflected upon these questions. In doing so, they afforded a personal introduction into how they develop their artistic practice.

Grant Programme for Talent Development Talent development is one of the Fund’s five key objectives. Every year about 30 highly promising designers/makers are selected to receive a stipend for a year. This is intended for new work, whether research, materials, equipment, or projects in the Netherlands or abroad. The Fund also provides a supporting programme to facilitate the transition to professional practice. There is coaching and support for the whole group as well as one-on-one, in order to foster entrepreneurship and professionalism.

Liselore Frowijn AW 2016/17

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE LIONS
Liselore Frowijn AW 2016/17

Art has been an important source of inspiration in the work of Liselore Frowijn, and for this AW16/17 collection she would like to give a big shout out to all feminine artists making a change and showing a different perspective.

The AW16/17 collection is a homage to all strong women who are living or have been living in this world, with Niki de St. Phalle as a muse. The beautiful round volumes this artist has created with her Nana’s, formed, together with the spirit of the energetic and edgy women Frowijn admires, an inspiration for this collection.

She examined the strong signature of Niki’s work, and started designing materials in a similar naïve but bold way; where soft vs. primary colors, curving vs. graphic dessins, sharp vs. soft materials and new vs. recycled textiles are contrasting aspects within the collection. The final image is created by the act of layering, collage and drawing. The silhouettes are strong as trees, sensual in a way and implacable surviving time. The collection is like a modern baroque party, with a paradoxical approach towards materials; where artisan and mechanical designed textiles can jointly exist.

Ode to Dutch Fashion at Gemeentemuseum Den Haag

Exhibition 'Ode to Dutch Fashion' is on display until February 7th 2016

Hurry up because the exhibition 'Ode to Dutch Fashion' is closing on February 7th.
The exhibition gives an overview of the most important developments in Dutch fashion scene. On display you can see Metz & Co eveningwear form the 20ies, iconic Viktor & Rolf pieces, innovative Iris van Herpen 3dprinted dresses but also new names such as Bastian Visch and Liselore Frowijn.

With 'Ode to Dutch Fashion', Gemeentemuseum Den Haag highlights the most influental designers that have
placed the Netherlands firmly on the map as a country of idiosyncratic fashion talent.
Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, which has one of the most important fashion collections in the world, provided a first ever major exhibition showcasing the history of Dutch fashion in the Netherlands.

What else can you see in the exhibition
Anyone who saw King Willem-Alexander’s coronation cannot fail to recall the dazzling blue creation – a Jan Taminiau design – worn by Queen Máxima. The Netherlands is home to a huge amount of creativity, and this has certainly not gone unnoticed abroad. Designers with their own strong signature have been particularly successful at rising above the crowd and gaining a strong reputation. Gemeentemuseum Den Haag is proud to present a well-deserved Ode to these designers this autumn, and to show how fashion has developed in this country since 1900.

Following international
trends In the seventeenth century the Dutch elite liked to appear in portraits dressed in dignified black. However, a closer look reveals more than fifty shades of black: from ‘crow black’ to ‘coal black’ and ‘glossy black’. From that time until well into the twentieth century the Dutch followed international fashion, sometimes adapted to their own taste. In the eighteenth century, for example, a great deal of blue silk was worn in the Netherlands, while the French preferred brighter colours like emerald green or lemon yellow. Fashion consciousness grew in the nineteenth century. The Dutch closely followed the latest international trends and the arrival of the luxury department store Hirsch (from Brussels) helped prompt the emergence of a real luxury goods industry towards the end of the century.

Idiosyncratic design
The first fashion designers to work under their own name in the Netherlands, like Joan Praetorius in the 1920s, continued to follow the lead of Parisian couture for a long time. Praetorius’ designs were admired for their ‘clean lines’ and also their ‘Dutch simplicity and quality’. After the Second World War a whole generation of Dutch designers emerged, including Max Heymans, Dick Holthaus, Frans Molenaar, Fong Leng and Frank Govers. In the 1960s they turned their attention away from Paris, developing their own distinct style, featuring lots of black-and-white, a keen eye for line and shape, and also explosions of colour and idiosyncratic touches. From then on, fashion design courses in the Netherlands, particularly in Arnhem, focused on concept. This resulted in a host of creative designers, who put conceptual Dutch design firmly on the international map in the 1990s.

Major annual fashion exhibition
Almost ten years ago the Gemeentemuseum presented an exhibition entitled Fashion NL about the young designers of the time. Since then, fashion has been a recurring theme in the annual schedule of exhibitions. ‘Gemeentemuseum Den Haag has a long tradition of presenting fashion, with a clear emphasis on Dutch fashion’, director Benno Tempel explains. ‘Frans Molenaar had a solo exhibition here in the 1980s, for example. But we also frequently work with major foreign fashion houses. This took quite a lot of effort in the beginning, but now they know us and come to us themselves. We recognise the importance of fashion and that is reflected in our exhibitions policy.’

 Photography and design of exhibition
Ode to Dutch Fashion will feature more than a hundred creations from the history of fashion in the Netherlands from 1900 to 2015. The exhibition has been designed by Maarten Spruyt and Tsur Reshef. The accompanying catalogue will be published by Waanders & de Kunst, and will include articles by Bianca du Mortier, Pascale Gorguet Ballesteros, Madelief Hohé and Georgette Koning. The photographs are by Sabrina Bongiovanni, who has photographed the historical collection and modern designs in typically Dutch settings: on a dike, in a tulip field, and amid the bustle of the city.

Liselore Frowijn - Fracture Space

Fracture space
In her work fashion designer Liselore Frowijn is permanently searching for the clash on sportswear and luxury. The concept of her new collection ‘’Fracture space’’ is based on the wardrobe of a woman who is fully at ease with herself. She moves elegantly and dynamically in space, and lets no person interrupt her energy. Instinctively she knows the base of pure luxury. The silhouette is based upon biking-jackets and polo-shirts, carried out in tweed, and finished with sporty pipings. Liselore combined her own developed and hand painted fabrics with materials from the outdoor industry, together with rich jacquards from Italy. With this collection she caught all vibrations of this enervating year, all bits and pieces that surrounded her and developed her signature. Like the paintings of Kokoschka she examined during the development of the collection: his powerful paintings displayed the energy of his characters, and he unrevealed their soul on almost an animal kind of way with his rough brush. His work inspired Frowijn to develop rhythmic prints, floral and striped, carried out in colours of the famous landscape-paintings by British painter David Hockney.

During SALON/BIG BANG fashion designer Liselore Frowijn will present her new collection and fragrance. Liselore recently graduated cum laude at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem in 2013 on her bachelor of fashion design. With her final collection she won the Frans Molenaar Couture Award and participated in the Festival International de Mode et de Photographie à Hyères last April, where she won the Grand Prix with her design for Chloé. This year she worked on several projects such as for Vlisco and participated on several exhibitions. During the last months Frowijn worked on her new collection.

Opening WinterSALON / 2014

Frowijn & Tilanus Atelier
On Sunday, January 26, SALON/ had its 14th salon event opening in three years. The Winter/SALON 2014 kick off opening took place at Porsthoornkerk.
Manon Schaap and Gijs Stork, the initiators of SALON stated that their mission with SALON is to create intimate settings for dialogues, presentations and to show the stories behind the work.  They aim to be a showcase of the process behind art and design instead of just showing the finished work.
The multidisciplinary installations at Posthoornkerk expressed this approach with a variety of work by talents from Design Academy Eindhoven, Collectie Arnhem 2014 by Artez students and my personal highlight, the work of Aaltje Kramer. Kramer presented her 'Fashion Without Images' project where she translated fashion editorials into words and poetry. She invites the audience to use their immagination.
Opera singer Imara Thomas performed within the 'youasme measyou' installation and in addition there is an interesting installation by Conny Groenewegen & Frans-Pieter Vonck, Berber Soepboer.

I have also visited Lensvelt location where you can see work by Frowijn&Tilanus Atelier, Sander Wassink Ma'ayan Pesach and Marga Weimans.

Frowijn&Tilanus Atelier is a collaboration of two very talented designers who graduation collections where noticed and awarded. Liselore Frowijn won Frans Molenaar Couture Award 2013 and Henriëtte Tilanus won G-Star Raw Lichting 2013 Award. Recently she won the People's Price at H&M Award 2014. Keep your eyes on this two designers!

Furthermore there are many presentations and events during WinterSALON / 2014  that is taking place until February 9 in Amsterdam.
