Painted Secret performance by Painted Series

Painted Series presents 'Painted Secret' collection during WinterSALON 2012.
Painted Secret is a limited edition of 24 related tops and shifts. Painted Secret is a series of delicate, fully fashioned knitted camisoles and 'shifts' in silk/cashmere yarn, worn as a secret to the skin. The pieces stem from the same pattern, machine-knitted in different colour variations. They have evolved into unique pieces, by the addition of Bulgarian handlace and woven clothing elements. The various hands and the machine complement each other in this work.

Painted Secret is presented in a video performace 'Dance me your secrets' with dancer Natascha Dejong and the band TOVERSEX. Led by Dutch designers Saskia van Drimmelen and Margreet Sweerts, Painted Series is a collective that blurs the lines between fashion and performance, and expands the idea of what a garment can be.

Out of Fashion: Maastricht Edition

Last weekend, Saturday 14 May, the exhibition 'Out of Fashion: Maastricht Edition' was opened in NaiM/Bureau Europa.
Before the official opening there was a performance by Painted Series 'Painted Game'.

Guus Beumer and Eve-Marie Kuistermans

The programme for Out of Fashion – Maastricht Edition consists of an exhibition, a film programme and a series of events on the interaction between fashion and film. This project demonstrates how fashion houses, avant-garde designers and young, still unknown fashion designers make use of film, video and online media to shape, distribute and sell their designs and vision.
For more information on activities during Out of Fashion – Maastricht Edition: www.bureau-europa.nl or my Out of Fashion blogpost.

Here is a short selection of exhibited works.
There is more to see and it's very worth to visit! 'Out of Fashion: Maastricht Edition' is open until 26th of June 2011.

Maison Martin Margiela has a long history when it comes to film as a means of presentation. In this exhibition Maison Martin Margiela shows several men's and women's shows and presentations from 1993-2011.

During Out of Fashion: Maastricht Edition, there will be two screenings of Pyuupiru, an intimate portrait that Matsunaga Daishi made of his friend Pyuupiru, a visual artist whose body forms the core of his work. He underwent a drastic gender operation and the process is captured in the documentary Pyuupiru 2001-2008.

Painted Game

At the opening of 'Out of Fashion:Maastricht Edition' in NAiM/Bureau Europa, Saturday 14 May, Painted presented their recent and previous work with a performance 'Painted Game'. For this performance Painted collaborated with students from the Toneelacademie Maastricht.

Painted is a collective led by Saskia van Drimmelen, Margreet Sweerts and Desirée Hammen.
They believe in the strength of collaboration. They work together with masters in nearly forgotten crafts like needlepoint lace from Bulgaria and beadwork of the Assiniboine tribe from Northern America. By sharing knowledge and the joy of making, traditional techniques breathe new life.
