Central Saint Martins MA Fashion show 2017

Probably most anticipated graduation fashion show in the world, Central Saint Martins MA presented the class of 2017.  This year, 16 students were chosen by course leader Fabio Piras, Louise Wilson's successor, to present their collections to an audience. The prestigious Professionnel Creative Award, awarded each year by show sponsor L'Oréal, was shared between two students, Gabriele Skucas and Stefan Cooke.

Young@Squat at FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2013

Young@Squat was in Maastricht, they gave a great show during FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2013. But who and what is Young@Squat?

"We are a creative, observative, innovative, cooperative, commited, enthusiastic group of independent authors, specialized in fashion design, graphics design, art and creative direction. Can you tell us something about the Squat collective? We are a very diverse group of designers, each with a very specific point of view in fashion and design in general. However, as a group, we combine all of our different styles and perspectives to form distinct, but very cohesive collections.
We are a very diverse group of designers, each with a very specific point of view in fashion and design in general. However, as a group, we combine all of our different styles and perspectives to form distinct, but very cohesive collections."

What is the history of Squat and who founded the initiative?
Squat was founded by two prominent Slovenian designers, Natasa Persuh and Zoran Garevski. In 2010, they invited a group of young, unknown designers to form the younger branch of the brand, now called Young@Squat.

Which designers participated at FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2013?  Young@Squat participated in its full line up of designers – Peter Movrin, Sanija Reja, Petja Zorec, Anđela Lukanovič, Špela Hvale, Ivan Rocco, Dajana Ljubičič, Nena Florjančič, Katja Magister, Ana Jelinič and Nina Tomažin. Our collection, Between Sense and Sanity, is a bold, daring and cool fusion of both craft and modern techniques showing expertise in fashion textile design combined with a fearless future-vision.

How did you come up with the title of the collection “Between Sense and Sanity”?

The project (collection) is a challenge to us – we set a broad theme, which opens new questions and problems; what is between sense and sanity? How different is it from nonsense and insanity?

Watch out for them!!

'Between Sense and Sanity' by YOUNG@SQUAT

One of the highlights at the 5th edition of FASHIONCLASH Maastricht is Young@Squat, a group of promising fashion designers from Slovenia.
Squat was founded by two prominent Slovenian designers: Nataša Peršuh and Zoran Garevski. In 2010, they invited a group of young, unknown designers to form the younger branch of the brand, now called Young@Squat.

Encounter with Peter Movrin

Peter Movrin about his 'FranzMadonna' collection: 'Gothic art was a style that developed in the mid 12th century and was an era of God’s Excellency and people’s humility. Architecture, painting and sculpture were strongly marked by the religious motives of Christianity. Architecture was the most expressive among these arts and it combined Gothic style with powerful objects, showing its strength with details like rosettes, glass partitions and Christian symbols. With this collection I introduced rays of light into materials by using notches and transformed shapes from outside the body. As a contrast to strong details on leather there is a light and poetic feeling to the material that mitigates the collection and adds a bit of romanticism. I combined investigation of this era and people’s characters with the Eastern world and the Islamic religion. Rich jewellery is applied as small braided notches so one can feel a connection with Eastern religions and suffering. Covered faces and curiosity about what is under metres of dark material drive us to investigate forms that are shown through body movement. Maybe underneath it all, there is hope.'

Q&A with Peter Movrin is published in Platinum Love Magazinehttp://www.platinumlovemagazine.com/articles/peter-movrin-13

Going through his portfolio it is clear that in his short career he has already gained notable international attention and successes. Born in 1986, Peter Movrin has won several awards, participated in various shows and events, made it to Mango Award semifinal, he is scouted by no less than Lidewij Edelkoort for one of her projects and since 2008 he is collaborating with fellow designer Almira Sadar. Peter Movrin is one of the young fashion designers of SQUAT collective, an independent fashion, art & design collective and a leading platform in Slovenia.

Peter Movrin's collections can be described as dramatic, dark and mysterious. His monumental and long silhouettes, use of materials and avant-garde aesthetics impressed me at once. It was his most recent collection that led my attention to his work again.
