ZERO by Nanine Linning with costumes by Iris van Herpen

In the multidisciplinary ZERO by Nanine Linning dance, fashion and music come together. The fashion part is a contribution by Iris van Herpen, Dutch designer who just won the ANDAM Award in Paris. This was not the first time that Nanine and Iris are working together but the first time on a catwalk. Iris van Herpen designed costumes for 'Synthetic Twin' and 'The Endless Songs of Silence', still one of my all time favorite dance performances.
It is no secret that I am a fan of contemporary dance, ZERO made the opening the opening of the 21st edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam an inspiring experience. It is great to see that next to FASHIONCLASH Festival other fashion events are embracing 'dance' in their schedule.

The show is a multidisciplinary performance where dance, fashion and music come together.
The performance is realized in cooperation with Nanine Linning and her dance company, Jurlights, sound designer Salvador Broad and 4DSOUND. Through this unique collaboration the opportunity arose to use for the first time the worlds first and only 4D sound system during a fashion presentation.

Requiem, a visual spectacle by Nanine Linning

It's During Tefaf festival and each year there is a dance evening. This year it is a very special one, an very impressive interdisciplinary work of art.  After hugh success in Germany  'Requiem' celebrated it's Dutch premiere tonight at Theater a/h Vrijthof.
First part is an exhibition on stage where the audience can walk through and the second part is a dance performance.
In REQUIEM Nanine Linning imagines the tension between life and death, the profane and the sacred, the carnal and the spiritual. Themes, which are inextricably linked together and are at the same time absolute opposites. Inspired by Fauré's “Requiem”, Dante's “La Divina Commedia” and the absurd and surreal images of the artist duo “Les Deux Garçons”, Linning is searching for her own paradise on earth.

You can see a picture report of the exhibition part here, and if you want to experience it take a look a the tour: http://www.naninelinning.nl/

Nanine Linning "Synthetic Twin"

Last Thursday, December 9, I paid a visit to Theater aan het Vrijthof, to see the performance "Synthetic Twin". After seeing "The Endless Songs of Silence" during the Nederlandse Dansdagen in October 2010 (Dutch Dance Days), I became a fan of Nanine Linning.

This talented Dutch choreographer made with "Synthetic Twin" her debut as Artistic Director of Tanztheater Osnabrück.

Synthetic Twin reflects our daily life in the form of a Siamese twin. The extreme desire to tear apart from someone while the desire to merge is a recurring dilemma in our lives. These people who are actually two in one fascinate Linning. But are you one if you have two heads, and your body gives home to two worlds of thought?

For Synthetic Twin, Nanine Linning worked with fashion designer Iris van Herpen, with whom she also worked for “The Endless Song of Silence” and the opera “Madama Butterfly”. This young upcoming fashion talent in the international fashion scene won the Dutch Fashion Award 2010 last November.

The stage set and the giant video projections are by stage designer Jan Boiten, with whom she previously created successful productions like “Bacon” and "Endless Song of Silence”.

Synthetic Twin is a conceptual performance where the era of Baroque is crossed by the hard and fast world of today. The whole thing is a visual and musical spectacle with some striking images. With her multidisciplinary signature Nanine Linning blends necessarily different art disciplines into a unique and new theatrical language in collaboration with prominent artists from visual art, video, design and fashion.

The endless song of silence

Endless Song of Silence 2010 by Nanine Linning

Last weekend the city of Maastricht hosted once again the Dutch Dance Festival (Nederlandse Dansdagen). For me personally one of the highlights of the cultural offerings of Maastricht. On the Sunday program featured the stunning performance of 'The Endless Song of Silence' by Nanine Linning. Two people being together, but also increasingly going their separate ways. Nanine Lining and Danilo Colona dancing in a beautiful setting and impressive music (Third Symphony by Gorecki) and not to forget the costumes are designed by Iris van Herpen. 'The endless song of silence' is one of the most beautiful dance performances I've ever seen.
