Hungry Planet: What the World Eats
Ever wondered what's on family dinner tables around the globe?
I discover this amazing project at Łódź Design Festival 2013.
Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio traveled the world documenting that most basic of human behaviors — what we eat. Their project, “Hungry Planet,” depicts everything that an average family consumes in a given week–and what it costs — laid out in thought provoking detail.
Hungry Planet: What the World Eats
30 Families, 24 Countries, 600 Meals
In Hungry Planet, Peter Menzel and Faith D'Aluisio present a photographic study of families from around the world, revealing what people eat during the course of one week. Each family's profile includes a detailed description of their weekly food purchases; photographs of the family at home, at market, and in their community; and a portrait of the entire family surrounded by a week's worth of groceries.
To assemble this remarkable comparison, Menzel and D'Aluisio traveled to twenty-four countries and visited thirty families from Bhutan and Bosnia to Mexico and Mongolia. Accompanied by an insightful foreword by Marion Nestle, and provocative essays from Alfred W. Crosby, Francine R. Kaufman, Corby Kummer, Charles C. Mann, Michael Pollan, and Carl Safina, the result of this journey is a 30-course documentary feast: captivating, infuriating, and altogether fascinating.

A Final Affair - by Atelier Milada and Kris Micallef
Atelier Milada by Ann Boogaerts in collaboration with Kris Micallef
Atelier Milada by Ann Boogaerts is debuting at Amsterdam Fashion Week on January 24th 2012. She is showing her fall 2013 collection 'Brouillard Blue'.
In September 2012 she showed at Runway Malta on behalf of F.A.B (Fashion Across Borders) and there she worked with Kris Micallef. Together they created this beautiful shoot in the streets of Valletta.
The collection is inspired by a lady in her late 60's. Lady with a fantastic character that could easily come out of a Tolstoy novel. The lady travelled all around the world by herself, and during the journeys, she collected small souvenirs from the places she visited and the interesting people she met in Russia, France and Japan. The souvenirs meant so much to her that she integrated them in her clothing. That is what we see in this collection and the backdrop of Valletta seems as a perfect place for this shoot.
Ann Boogaerts graduated from Artez Academy in 2009 and with her graduation collection she has won the prestigious G-Star Raw Award 'Lichting 2009'.
Stay tuned for her new collection this week, but for now enjoy this stunning story.

Diane Arbus at Foam
What an amazing experience to see the iconic work of Diane Arbus at the exhibition in Amsterdam.
Hurry up!
Diane Arbus can be seen from 26 October 2012 - 13 January 2013 at Foam.
Diane Arbus (1923-1971) revolutionized the art she practiced. Her bold subject matter and photographic approach produced a body of work that is often shocking in its purity, in its steadfast celebration of things as they are. Her gift for rendering strange those things we consider most familiar, and for uncovering the familiar within the exotic, enlarges our understanding of ourselves.

MOAM & Foam
Last night I attended the opening of MOAM in &Foam in Amsterdam. The exhibition is a huge success. Its support resulted in overcrowded space and a long queue for the opening and that is well deserved!
MOAM is an exhibition where fiftheen contemporary photographers work together with fifteen designers.
MOAM has selected one iconic image from three reputable Dutch photographers, Anton Corbijn, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin and Erwin Olaf and asked fifteen other talented photographers to translate these three images. As a result, five different interpretations on the occasion of the same photo. Inspiring and creative combinations that shine a new light on existing iconical photos.
| three iconic images |
In addition, each photographer is linked to a Dutch designer. This gives an innovative look at the iconic images. An interesting collaboration between the most successful names and the promising newcomers from the Dutch fashion and photography scene.
Participants
Alique & SPR+
Blommers/Schumm & Mattijs van Bergen
Carmen Kemmink & Borre Akkersdijk
Dennis Swiatkowski & Frans Molenaar
Jasper Abels & Avelon
Jolijn Snijders & Claes Iversen
Maarten Alexander & Sjaak Hullekes
Marc de Groot & Yvonne Kwok
Martien Mulder & Peet Dullaert
Paul Bellaart & Jan Taminiau
Philippe Vogelenzang & Winde Rienstra
Robin de Puy & Francisco van Benthum
Sanja Marušić & Hellen van Rees

'Man-made Animals' textile by Renée de Brock
I discoverd some interesting textile design at the Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Show 2012.
One of them is the work of Renée de Brock.Renee de Brock’s Man-Made Animals is a collection of imaginary animal skins of treated leathers and furs. Using the BBC series Planet Earth as inspiration, Renee has created three new categories of animals for her samples: the green primal animals, the orange amphibios and the blue peltbios, complete with fur and scales.
The presentation goes along with great photography by Lonneke van der Palen and Guus Kaandorp.

Katy Strange
Karin Loopik, is the name behind Katy Strange.
I descovered her work at the ABK Maastricht 2012 graduation.
789 graduation project by Katy Strange
"I photographed all the people who slept in my bed for the last 2 years (789 days to be exact). These photographs are all short “bed-stories”, because this is how I experienced my student life. I use photography to tell my own personal stories.
Throughout four years of study at the art academy I constantly tried to capture my experiences in photographs. Unfortunately I didn’t pay enough attention (photography-wise) to my friends in the beginning. Especially in hard times I often realize how much influence they have on me. They are part of who I am today. I show you my friends and you tell me who I am. Additionally I also made 100 self portraits. My student life has been unpredictably random sometimes and these 100 portraits of myself hopefully convey some of that randomness. They are shown in a timeline. So both my “Bed-stories” and the “100 days timeline” show me as an art student and the importance of the people around me, my friends."
