The picture of Dorian Gray

'The Picture of Dorian Gray' by Oscar Wilde 1980

Lately I have been reading, well it's a huge news from my side, because I'm not that fond of reading. But there are few books that I wanted to read and I actually liked. I'm familiar with Oscar Wilde, his famous qoutes and his influence on style. In the 19th century he introduced style trough literature.
The book is really inspiring and intelligent, but though written in the 19th century it is so modern.

Recently I discoverd that there is a new movie called 'Dorian Gray', based on the novel.
You should judge for your self but after reading this great novel the movie is really a dissapointment.

Close Up

'Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton' by Loïc Prigent

Beginning of a new year is always a weird and kind of a lazy period but perfect time to finally see those movies/documentaries that I still had to see. So I finally watched 'Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton' by Loïc Prigent.

If you don't have it on dvd you can watch it on the internet:
Close Up: De magie van modeontwerper Marc Jacobs

And if you have more time check out the documentary about Cristóbal Balenciaga.

And if you bit more time you can see more documentaries Avro shows in Close up.

Tito's Pioneers

Thanks to facebook, I got in touch with friends from my first school. Today someone uploaded a picture from our first day of school. I was so delighted and decided to share this joyfull memory of my life, and Yes, Im from the 1983 generation.

Union of Pioneers of Yugoslavia (Croatian, Serbian, Serbo-Croatian: Savez pionira Jugoslavije; Slovenian: Zveza pionirjev Jugoslavije (ZPJ)) was the pioneer movement of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Its members wore red scarves as well as navy blue hats called Titovka. These hats were sometimes white, and bore a red star on the front. A white shirt was often worn with the Pioneer scarf (marama) and the Titovka, although this varied depending on which part of Yugoslavia the particular pioneer was from. Boys often wore navy blue shorts or pants, and girls wore skirts in the same colour, along with white stockings and black shoes. On special occasions, such as a visit from Tito himself, Pioniri sometimes wore traditional costumes from their native regions of Yugoslavia.
The organization was founded on December 27, 1942. It was a substructure within the Socialist Youth Union of Yugoslavia. It published Male novine. The organization was divided into younger pioneers (7-11 years) and older pioneers (11-15 years).[1]
Typically, the induction ceremony took place in school for children aged 7 in the autumn of their first year in school, as part of the Republic Day celebrations. The youngest generation that undertook it was born around 1983.

In English:
Today, as I become a Pioneer,
I give my Pioneer's word of honor -
That I will study and work tirelessly,
respect parents and my seniors,
and be a loyal and honest comrade/friend.
That I will love our homeland, self-management SFRY.
That I will spread brotherhood and unity
and the principles for which comrade Tito fought.
And that I will value all peoples of the world who respect freedom and peace!

The Art of Fashion

'The Art of Fashion'

With this inspiring exhibition Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is exploring the boundaries of fashion.
I was familiar with most of the works presented in this exhibition, but it was a pleasure to see everything in this context and to discover artists new to me such as Nick Cave.

'We Solo Men'

We Solo Men
Ann Van den Broek, WArd/WaRD en Korzo Producties

Last weekend, the 21st of November, I saw the performance in Ainsi in Maastricht.
Before the performance there was an opportunity to have an inspirational encounter with the choreographer Ann van der Broek.
'We Solo Men' was really fantiastic; from sound to performance by the dancers ( and not to forget the costumes). Not that long ago ( during the Nederlandse Dansdagen) I saw 'I Solo Ment' which is another great peace with impressive performance by Cecilia Moisio and Dario Tortorelli.

Across the borders festival Aachen

'Across the borders festival' Aachen 15 august 2009

Nawie Kuiper and Branko Popovic of FASHIONCLASH were asked to create a fashion performance in the historical center of Aachen. Nawie Kuiper, Elsewerk, Marieke van Reusel, Sonja Schoedel and Branko Popovic showed pieces of their collections.

For these performance I have shown few pieces from the collection 'Transformed star pt. II' and a brand new dress for woman. That was really exciting because it's been a while since I have designed for women. The dress is a try-out for a women's collection based on the 'Transformed star' concept.

Modus Operandi by Matylda Krzykowski

I never really write about other people on my blog but some people are just worth mentioning.
This is Matylda Krzykowski, she just graduated as a product designer on the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht, but she is more, a good friend, she's always giving good energy and she is having an inspiring blog MATANDME. You should get to know her!

Here is a pictures of her graduation project ' Modus Operandi' .
I like her approach, the idea is very clear and pure, and it keeps you wonder what else you can do with a chair. Her work is light and with a sense of humor but most of all she does it with love.
