For Runway Malta he created few new pieces. Marius Op 't Eynde graduated from fashion department at Artez in Arnhem last year. With this collection he was also nominated and awarded with an honorable mention at Frans Molenaar Award 2011. The collection is inspired by his personal love for the cycling and the bicycle culture. Combined with the notion of freedom and speed, it is about being in total control and in perfect sync with the motion.

Konea Ra

Matthias "Mangara" Cermak wearing
BRANKOPOPOVIC
Meet Konea Ra!
Their video for the song 'Ping Pong' premiered yesterday (March 13) and on 2nd of March debut their album 'Pray for the sun' came out .
With their debut album "Pray for sun" Konea Ra lead us on a journey which highlights the bizarre world of inner conflicts wherein the themes are love, lust, and conformity. Konea Ra's music is a combination of deep soul singing and unexpected beats that result in independent, urban, and opulent electro-pop - a truly original never before heard on the Austrian music production horizon.
Konea Ra is the music project of Matthias "Mangara" Cermak & Stephanie Zamagna

Turet Kneufermann at Runway Malta

Turet Kneufermann, one of the designers that I met at Runway Malta S/S2012 edition came from far away. New Zealand designer, Turet Knuerfermann has been at the top of the industry for years. Mention her name in New Zealand or Australia and people instantly think of high-end design, luxurious fabrics. That is exactly what this collection was about: wearable, elegant and classical womenswear. The collection contains pieces that can go along for several trends and few pastel dresses with very nice  horse prints.

FASHIONCLASH New Designer Competition at Runway Malta

Last weekend I was in Malta again and this time with FASHIONCLASH.
Runway Malta hand in hand with Valletta 2018 have put together a New Designer Competition to entice young designers.
Valletta 2018 is a project to enrich Malta´s cultural activities and enhance the many areas of art within the Maltese community. Becoming a candidate for the European Capital of Culture for 2018 has opened the door to Valletta´s cultural hub and has allowed for artistic relationships to be built between Malta and other European cities. Because of this, V18 and Runway Malta came up with a fantastic way to team up with another candidate city – Maastricht in the Netherlands – (Maastricht VIA2018) to give a Maltese designer an opportunity to show at the inaugural FASHIONCLASH Maastricht event held in June. Applications were open to any new designer in Malta to come up with three outfits using any material they like.

¨The Valletta 2018 Foundation is very happy to be collaborating on this fashion programme which enables an exciting exchange of ideas to take place between Malta and the Netherlands, both of which are hosting the candidate cities for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2018. We look forward to this being a success and establishing this type of shared project over the long term to make of it a sustainable means of collaboration.¨ Says Karsten Xuereb of V18.

This collaboration with Runway Malta is supported by The Valletta 2018 Foundation and Maastricht & Euregio Meuse-Rhine 2018

From all of the applications received, FASHIONCLASH had to pick five finalists to show on the catwalk at Runway Malta. Then one winner is awarded with 'FCM2012 participation' : an all-expense paid trip to show their full collection at FASHIONCLASH Maastricht in June 2012.

FASHIONCLASH New Designer Competetion finalists are: Enrique Tabone, Ewa Nowacka, Geneva Corlett, Celeste by Martina Spiteri and Nicole Cushieri.

The winner is: Geneva Corlett!

Wherever we go by Øystein Johansen

Physical Theatre at Huis van Huis van Bourgondië.
Inspired by isolation and how humans relate to each other in solitude Øystein Johansen made his first but strong piece at Huis van Bourgondië with ‘Wherever we go’.
In 'Wherever we go' we meet three men hiding. They hide from the end of everything. In their fear of the end their doubts and believes come to the surface. Where isolation makes a bubble, a reality within the reality, while the world outside actually goes on.
Three promising performers Yannick GreweldingerIgor VrebacMarius Mensink take you to a place where no one wants to go but yet we all can somehow relate to.
The evening was even more inspring with a nice encounter with the performer Igor Vrebac, with whom I share the passion to make work inspired by our Ex-Yugoslavia roots.
Øystein graduated from Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in 2010 with the honouring award Top Naeff for his artistic merits during his education. http://www.øysteinjohansen.no/

Maastricht & Euregio Meuse-Rhine 2018 bid book presentation

Maastricht & Euregio Meuse-Rhine joined forces to become a candidate European Capital of Culture for 2018. For several years now the Maastricht VIA2018 organisation worked hard on the concept for the bid book. Last night the very first version of the bid book was presented in a full house at Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht. Everyone who is somehow invloved in culture in this Euregio was there.

In 2018, the Netherlands and Malta will be providing the two European Capitals of Culture. In December 2008 and 2009, the Maastricht municipal council decided to put the city forward as a candidate. Maastricht will not be alone, because the candidacy is being supported by the Dutch Province of Limburg and is being shaped in close cooperation with our partners Aachen, Liège, Heerlen, Hasselt and Sittard-Geleen. The Belgian provinces of Limburg and Liège, the Aachen region and the German-speaking Community in Belgium are also involved. That means that Maastricht is a candidate on behalf of the entire Meuse-Rhine Euroregion.

Mehrnoush Rahmani,
student from Theatre Academy in  Maastricht
At the end the bid book (in the newspaper format) was officialy presented to the audience. The mission statement of  the bid is build around the concept of 'Europe Revisited': A new opportunity for the lost chapter of the 1992 Maastricht Treaty.

I was very pleased to see some FASHIONCLASH pictures, and some of my blog pictures. Here are some impressions of this positive evening. Let's hope and go for it, Fingers Crossed!

MUGLER Fall 2012/13

Ever since Nicola Formichetti became creative director at Mugler I am looking forward to the shows. Together with the head of womenswear, Sébastien Peigné, Nicola presented a very nice collection that goes well along Mugler's signature looks. It's so great to have Thierry Mugler spirt again on the catwalk. n
The collection proves again that the coming season womenswear looks with peplums are clearly the must haves.

MOQUI MARBLES A/W 2012/13 by Ingo Binder

Last weekend Maastricht based fashion designer Ingo Binder presented his new collection for fall 2012/13 in Marres.
The collection was presented in an intimate setting with candlelight and live music. The collection and the atmosphere clearly refer to 'western' inspiration. It was very difficult to see the clothing in this presentation. There were slim tailored pants, coats, jackets and blouses. Striking were the big scarves with prints at some outfits. The collection is build up in matt colors like green gray and brown. In general the collection is very wearable, with basic and classic menswear.
It is a nice collection but maybe a bit too wearable.  I missed some typical Ingo Binder outfits. The presentation seemed more outspoken than the collection, so Im looking forward for the showroom to see the detail.
I follow the work of Ingo Binder for a several years now, he is one of of the few designers in Maastricht that is building up a label. He has participated at FASHIONCLASH Maastricht and with his graduation collection he was selected for Lichting 2010. After Amsterdam Fashion Week and London Fashion Week it was very nice to see a low budget or rather say 'no-budget' fashion show in my hometown. Keep up the good work Ingo!

If you have not seen the show you can go to the showroom.

Ingo Binder Showroom is at the temporary showroom at SCOPE 13.
Thursday, 15tth March 11 am - 6 pm until Sunday, 25th March 12 - 6 pm
