Fier Showroom A/W 13/14 during Berlin Fashion Week

Fier Showroom is once again gathering the finest upcoming international labels for a showcase during Berlin Fashion Week A/W 13/14 and I am a very proud media supporter!
Thirteen upcoming fashion and accessories designers will present their new collections in the third edition of Fier Showroom and in coming weeks I will present to you the participating designers. Stay tuned!

The showroom will be open from the 17th to the 18th of January, 2013, preceeded by an opening party on the 16th of January, 2013, powered by KALTBLUT Magazine. If everyting goes as planned I will be there.

Fier Showroom and its affiliated events will take place at the international art house – The WYE (Skalitzerstr 86, Door C, 10997 Berlin).

Fier Showroom is also hosting an exclusive performance and installation by Dr. Jessica Bugg [UK] as well as an installation by Iris Schieferstein [DE].  Furthermore, the public will have access to the fashion photography exhibition A Room with a View curated by the Fier team between the 16th and the 20th of January, 2013.
FIER showroom A/W 13/14 is partner of Konzept86, Berlin Fashion Film Festival, The Wye and Toyota. FIER showroom will be connected via Toyota Shuttle cars to green and independent fashion spots in Berlin. As part of the showroom there will be a specially equipped eco corner in cooperation with EFECT (SCOOP).

Inge Jacobsen

I found out about Inge Jacobsen few months ago,lost the note where I wrote her name and now I found it again. Using images found in fashion magazines and newspapers, Irish-Danish artist Inge Jacobsen creates textured photo collages by adding embroidery and cross-stiching.

Dansvooropleiding Maastricht needs support!

The survival of the Dansvooropleiding Maastricht (educational dance school) is in danger!
Therefore Dansvooropleiding Maastricht organized a charity gala in to show their self-produced performances but sadly also to ask for help.  The school seeks donors urgently to able to continue offering a platform to regional young dance talents. For many years the school has been a great platform  for dance talents.  Many of them followed a professional dance training and some of them like Natascha Dejong for example are enjoying huge successes at the moment.
Last night I attended the gala and encountered the great potential of these young talents. It is hard to believe that the school is in danger at this stage where the talent is blossoming.

They have now launched a foundation 'Stichting Ondersteuning Danstalent Limburg' to gain support  and to be able to keep on offering of the platform to dance talents from the Euregio (Maastricht and its environment).

The Pilgrim Project

The Pilgrim Project, a brand new dance duet by premiered last night during the charity gala of Dansvooropleiding Maastricht.
The project is a collaboration by finalists of SYTYCD (So You Think You Can Dance tv show) Natascha Dejong and Uri Eugenio, choreographer Joost Vrouenraerts and designer Branko Popovic.  As you may know I am a huge fan of contemporary dance so it meant a lot to me to be a part of this project and to work with this talented people. The whole project came to life in just one weak and the result is stunning!

The Pelgrim Project was established in command of Euregionaal Dance Platform (Euregionaal Dansplatform VIA 2018).

FAB POP-UP STORE Maastricht Opening

There is a new 'temporary' hotspot in town! FAB POP-UP STORE celebrated another opening. After great success in Hasselt the temporary FAB Store was opened at Entre Deux shopping mall in Maastricht.
Dennis Vandebroeck and Sarah Tulp created the 'opening performance' for the occasion. In addition the cool dj duo 'The modest men' brought the swing mood to this great evening.

Young fashion talent from the Euregio Meuse-Rhine gets the chance to showcase and sell their designs. In the FAB Pop-Up Store you can find unique clothing, scarves, handbags, jewellery, knitwear, children's clothing and even dogs clothing.

Prince Claus Awards 2012

Prince Claus Fonds Awards were presented today (on the social media bespoke date of 12.12.12) at Citizens' Hall of the Royal Palace Amsterdam. I found my self surrounded among 450 very distinguished guests.
Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands along with Their Royal Highnesses Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje and Princess Maxima of the Netherlands, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien, and Princess Mabel attended the 2012 Prince Claus Awards.
The recipient of the 2012 Prince Claus Awards. went to the Argentine non-profit publishing house, Eloísa Cartonera. The company produces:
“… handmade books made of recycled materials. The materials are collected by Cartoneros, or “cardboard people” who are unemployed and survived Argentina’s political and economic collapse in 2001. Drawn to Eloísa Cartonera’s social solidarity, emerging and established Latin American writers donated their short stories, novels and other forms of literature to the company. The collective, small-scale method produces books that are cheaper than conventional paperbacks.”

TROPHY ROOM by Fabian von Spreckelsen

In 'Trophy Room' Fabian von Spreckelsen showcased a series of steel objects inspired by animals. The characteristics of the animal silhouettes are expressed in abstract and geometric shapes, creating timeless objects that feel like a trophy for the mystic power of the animal.

 'The choice of steel is both to celebrate the strength of animals and to emphasize their transience. In an analogy to the harsh environment conditions within the natural habitat; light, water and air determine the appearance of the material. Moreover, once perished as object, the steel provides new sustenance for the soil from which it came. In so doing, the pieces do not constitute a victory over, but rather a respect for the continuous renewal within nature.' (text: Guus van Engelshoven)

Descent in Spinola Bay Malta

 'Descent in Spinola Bay' is a beautiful editorial and collaboration by Kris Micallef and designer Julia Schaetz, shot on location in Malta in October.
The story is published in the latest issue of Platinum Love Magazine 'The Freedom issue'. Just as this sublime shoot the issue is also very worth visiting. The magazine is a great platform for emerging talent.
