ISSEVER BAHRI SS2014 at Berlin Fashion Week

ISSEVER BAHRI presented their latest SS 2014 collection 'Turkploitation' in a stage presentation format during Berlin Fashion Week. This was my first encounter with Berlin Fashion Week and a quite pleasant one.
They drew inspiration from 'Turkploitation', the 1970's sympathetic and anarchical subgenre of exploitation film. This specific genre of Turkish film production is associated with imitating Hollywood blockbusters, most of the original content evolved into completely new and different stories and characters, which was mainly caused through low budget production and the adaption to islamic context.
ISSEVER BAHRI is a Berlin based fashion label, founded by Derya Issever and Cimen Bachri in March 2010. After graduating from the Fashion Design course of HTW Berlin in 2008, both designers worked for prestigious brands in the UK and Germany. ISSEVER BAHRI’s debut collection for Spring/Summer 2011 was awarded the annual PREMIUM Exhibition “Young Designers Award”.
They combine conceptual approach to their collection with their root countries Greece and Turkey. They merge their cultural roots with contemporary styles, handcrafted details and techniques in their concepts.
