International and interdisciplinary platform for new generation of designers and artists 12 – 15 June in Maastricht

6th edition of FASHIONCLASH Festival presents more than 100 emerging designers and artists from 30 countries from June 12 - 15 → Check out this years participants

FASHIONCLASH Festival is an inspiring fashion festival based in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The program with fashion shows, exhibitions, designer market, theatre and dance performances, pop-up stores, lectures, workshops, fashion film program gives promising talent the opportunity to show their work to a broad and various international audience and industry professionals. The annual festival provides platform to more than 100 selected talents from all over the world and is a unique opportunity to discover talent and to get inspired through the art of fashion. Since the first edition in 2009 more than 700 talents from 30 different countries have joined the festival and were given the opportunity to showcase their work.
FASHIONCLASH Festival is a celebration and an dynamic clash of visions, cultures and people. Main focus of the platform is on the new generation of designers and artists, active within a broad range of disciplines. The work shown, are related through a clear link with fashion; fashion design, textile, photography, performances, video, accessories etc.

FASHIONCLASH Festival is easily accessible for both the artists and the audience. Admission for the exhibition, designer market and most of the Side Program is free. To attend the runway program one can buy ticket.

The chosen theme for the 6th edition of the festival is 'AGE' and the art of ageing in the broadest sense. Fashion provides a number of means to break down boundaries that are related to the stereotypes concerning age. Whatever is your position in the debate concerning age, it is something that you can relate to. FASHIONCLASH Festival is intrigued to navigate within the theme of age and to show how multi-layered concept age is. Main exploration of the theme will be presented within (OLD)Fashion(ed) project and the exhibition. FASHIONCLASH Festival 2014 campaign image is expressing the theme by showing three generations of women.


Program at SAMdecorfabriek (former Mosa décor factory) 13 – 15 June

Fashion Shows program where emerging designers are showing their collections, but the runway is also a showcase for theatre and dance performances. Fashion and dance will clash on the runway. This year the Dutch Dance Festival and FASHIONCLASH offer fashion designers and choreographers a unique platform with two special projects, Distinguished Dreams and (OLD)Fashion(ed). Within Distinguished Dreams ten successful young choreographers and designers will create new work in pairs. Each group will develop a mini performance based on a mutual fascination and concept. (OLD)Fashion(ed) is a collaboration with the Dutch Dance Festival and Museum aan het Vrijthof. In this project, experienced crafts women and men share their knowledge with young fashion designers. The collection, worn by models of 65 years and older and presented with dance performances by renowned choreographers, will be on display during FASHIONCLASH Festival and the Dutch Dance Festival (October 2014). The project concludes with a special exhibition at the Museum aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht. The exhibition displays the costumes and video's from (OLD)Fashion(ed) project, and will provide sights to the personal lives of the involved artisans.

Exhibition is a selection of work curated around the theme of 'age'. The former décor factory of Mosa is temporarily transformed into an museum setting with installations that of work that are expressing the given theme.
Furthermore projects (OLD)Fashion(ed) and VERWEVEN 2014 are a major part of the exhibition. In VERWEVEN, a project by theatre performer Nina Willems, we tell the stories of ordinary people behind the clothes they wear. We ask them to show us their wardrobe and interview them about their lives and the importance of fashion in it. This will result in a series of short films about the influence of fashion on their daily lives. For the 2014 edition, the project will focus on the theme of age by showing five women of different ages.

FASHIONCLASH 'designer' Market is a brand new element on the main venue where designers are given the opportunity to showcase and sell their designs in a market style setting. Clash Project is one of the core projects of the festival. Each edition 10 non-fashion designers are invited to express their vision of fashion into a fashion outfit. Clash Project will be presented on the runway but also installed in the exhibition / market space.

FASHIONCLASH Side Program, at various location in Maastricht 12 – 15 June FASHIONCLASH Side Program is an accompanying program spread across various locations in Maastricht with pop-up stores, exhibitions, lectures, Film Fashion Night Out and events in selected boutiques and cultural spots in Maastricht. FASHIONCLASH Side Program is a curated selection of what 'Fashion City Maastricht' has to offer.
